JOB DESCRIPTION & EXPECTATIONS:
This P&C Underwriter position reports to the SVP/Underwriting Director. This individual works independently at an intermediate level of underwriting skill and difficulty. The successful candidate will operate within its assigned level of Underwriting Authority to evaluate, qualify and rate assigned insurance applications and supporting documentation to determine the acceptability of risks. This individual will be expected to approach product placement on an open-market-basis where appropriate. This individual will also be expected to:

•    Maintain a high level of accuracy in their work product
•    Successfully contribute toward the achievement of company’s premium and profitability goals.

This P&C Underwriter will coordinate account servicing through interaction and collaboration with the company’s Client Services, Risk Services and Claims Services functional areas. 

This role reports to the SVP/Underwriting Director and may be assigned additional projects to those outlined above.

•    3+ years of commercial property/casualty underwriting experience
•    Multi-Line Underwriting
•    Strong interpersonal skills including strong verbal and written communication skills
•    Collaborative approach to achieving department and company goals
•    Established technical underwriting knowledge base and desire to continually expand this knowledge base
•    Commitment to work product accuracy and strong attention to detail
•    Natural curiosity for evaluating an insured’s operations and exposures in the context of underwriting guidelines and appetite
•    Self-directed ability to stay organized in a fast-paced work environment in order to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
•    Strong work ethic
•    Active Indiana Property & Casualty license (preferred) or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
•    Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel and ability to adapt quickly to internal proprietary software program
